Better Together

In our small state up in the north of Malaysia, we have seen or heard Penang transformed politically in many ways since the British era. It has been a place where many political storms hit especially during the election campaigning period.

It is also my birthplace where I grew up to be a politician. Having getting involved in community movements in his schooling days, and then subsequently joining politics at an early age; I experienced what real politics and governance is in the nation.

For more than a decade getting my hands on politics and governance, I realised that there is a ‘vacuity’ in the political system of our nation. Political games and personal ambitions regardless from which side of the political spectrum has sacrificed the progress and development of the nation.

"Political games and personal ambitions regardless from which side of the political spectrum has sacrificed the progress and development of the nation."

The typical politics is too focused in toppling each other.

Politicians are too busy finding and criticising each other’s weaknesses.

Politicians are too busy arguing with each other just because they are the opponent.

Politicians are too busy focusing on the negatives, rather than the positives.

Politicians are too busy making fun of each other.

Changing a government is not a solution anymore. It is changing the political culture that is needed.

"Changing a government is not a solution anymore. It is changing the political culture that is needed."

Brothers and sisters, now is not the time for the same old politics anymore. It is not about toppling any figure or political party.

It is the time where we look into issues that we face; a matured political culture, a better city infrastructure, effective transportation system, threat of climate change, opportunities for our next generation, generating higher income, sustainable development are among the important ones.

It is a matter of my concern that these issues are critical and have to be solved. But with my strength alone, I am not able to deal with it. Therefore, I am launching this movement, Better Together, to bring people together to tackle the issues, as a collective group.

I am inviting you to join the team and I in being Better Together to make our community, city, state and nation better together.
